SHARIFF AGUAK, Maguindanao del Sur (October 9) — For decades, residents of this province had to travel hours to seek specialized medical care. This week, that changed.
The Bangsamoro Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC) officially opened on Tuesday, transforming the 52-year-old Maguindanao Provincial Hospital into a fully equipped tertiary medical facility — the first of its kind in the province and a major milestone for the Bangsamoro region.
For Health Minister Kadil Sinolinding Jr., who began his career as a frontliner in the same hospital back in 1991, the moment was deeply personal. “This is a testament of your dedication and commitment to serve,” he told doctors and nurses who have long cared for patients with limited resources.
The upgraded hospital now houses new facilities: an Eye Center and ENT Clinic, a Women and Children’s Protection Unit, and a modern Radiology and Imaging Complex. It also launched “Gamutang Pangkalahatan,” a free medical and surgical mission for indigent residents running until October 10.
“This hospital will change lives,” said Member of Parliament Hashemi Dilangalen, noting that patients no longer need to endure costly and exhausting trips to faraway cities for treatment. “It shows our serious commitment to building strong public health systems within BARMM.”
Deputy Speaker Baintan Adil-Ampatuan, one of the authors of the hospital’s upgrading law, called it “a major victory for public health,” serving more than 700,000 people across Maguindanao del Sur and nearby communities.
For hospital chief Mohammad Ariff Baguindali, the inauguration is a promise fulfilled. “This is a dream come true — a legacy that will live on for the Bangsamoro,” he said, his voice breaking with pride.
As the hospital’s hallways filled with patients availing of free services, what once was a modest provincial facility now stands as a symbol of progress and hope for thousands of families in the region.
