DIGOS CITY, DAVAO DEL SUR (March 3) — In pursuit of strengthening data-driven environmental governance toward a cleaner air in the province, AboitizPower subsidiary Therma South, Inc. (TSI), in partnership with Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region XI and Davao del Sur Provincial Environment Natural Resources Office (PENRO DavSur), has formalized the upcoming installation of a Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station (CAAMS) at the Capitol Compound in Digos City, Davao del Sur.

Once installed, the station, housed in a container-van-type structure, will be equipped with advanced technology capable of capturing and monitoring air quality through particulate measurements across the province on a real-time, 24/7 basis. TSI funded the establishment of the Continuous Ambient Air Monitoring System, while DENR-EMB XI and PENRO Davao del Sur will oversee monitoring operations and ensure that the data generated are integrated into regulatory compliance frameworks and public information systems.

“It helps us in shaping our informed-decisions in policy making and public awareness. It also assists us in the compliance to air quality standards and regulations” said Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau XI, Regional Director Alnulfo Alvarez.

“Through our strong partnerships with DENR-EMB XI, and PENRO Davao del Sur, we are reinforcing real-time air quality monitoring and supporting data-driven environmental governance. Together, we are advancing sustainable growth and responsible stewardship for our communities” Atty. Alona Ruyeras-Borromeo, Assistant Vice President for Corporate Services, said.

Air Monitoring Staff Engr. Glene Joriza explained that air particulates are carefully examined inside the station to evaluate air quality, which will help the growing and industrializing province of Davao del Sur mitigate factors affecting responsible development.

Under the Adopt-an-Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station Program, the installation is set to commence this year, adding to the existing CAAMS unit situated in Davao City, Tagum City in Davao del Norte and Malita in Davao Occidental.
