ZAMBOANGA CITY – An Abu Sayyaf bandit was killed in a clash as the military continue an offensive against the remaining bandits in Sulu, officials announced.

Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu commander, said the troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu clashed with the followers of Abu Sayyaf leader Mudzimar Sawadjaan alias Mundi around 7:23 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Danag, Patikul, Sulu.

Gonzales said the troops were checking the reported presence of Abu Sayyaf bandits when the clash ensued and lasted for about 15 minutes.

Gonzales added that the battle resulted to the death of a follower of Sawadjaan while the remaining bandits scampered in different directions. No one among the troops were either killed or wounded during the clash.

The troops recovered the remains of the slain Abu Sayyaf bandit and brought it to Camp Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital for proper identification.

“We are exhausting all our resources to limit the movements of the enemies and eventually neutralize their hardcore leaders,” Gonzales added. – Nikolai Gonzalo
