AFP, PNP rescue abducted doctor in Sulu

DAVAO CITY — Joint forces of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police rescued Dr. Daniel Moreno on Tuesday, March 24 at around 7:30 pm in the hinterlands of Barangay Bangalan, Indanan, Sulu.

A report received by NewsLine says, that the Abu Sayyaf bandits led by a certain Mundi Sawadyaan abandoned Moreno during the five-minute firefight with the combined troops of 1102nd infantry Brigade and the PNP.

Moreno was abducted by armed men on February 4, 2020 in Barangay Walled City, Jolo, Sulu.

In a statement, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)-Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) Commander Lt.Gen. Cirilito Sobejana said Moreno was rescued by members of 1102nd Infantry Brigade during a military operation.

Colonel Ignatius Patrimonio, commander of the 1102nd Brigade of the Philippine Army in a statement said “Acting on the information relayed by a concern citizen, troops of 1102nd Brigade conducted rescue operation.”

Patrimonio said Moreno will undergo medical check-up and debriefing at headquarter Joint Task Force Sulu.

“We will remain steadfast in accomplishing our mandate to neutralize the Abu Sayyaf Group and rescue the remaining captives,” said Major General Corleto Vinluan, Joint Task Force Sulu commander.

“The freedom of KV Moreno is attributed to the sustained search and rescue operation of the remaining KVs conducted by the government forces coupled with the support of the local populace throughout our operations,” Sobejana said.-Richard G. Falcatan/NewsLine
