AFP’s Gen. Guererro to MARINA?

DAVAO CITY, Philippines —- Will Armed Forces Chief-of-staff Gen. Rey Leonardo Guerrero head the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) after his retirement in April?

This question surfaced when  President Rodrigo Duterte during the Tienda Launching in Mawab, Compostela Valley Province, mentioned his name during his speech on January 22, 2018.

Duterte sidelined his frustrations among  officials who frequently travel abroad when he mentioned Guerrero.

He said when Marawi rehabilitation was about to start he appointed retired General Eduardo del Rosario and it worked will.

‘Yun si Jagger (Guererror’s nickname) pagkatapos niyan, siya ‘yung maghawak ng Marina, ‘yung pinaalis ko kay sige travel.”

(Jagger, after he is done, he will head MARINA, the one I fired is fond of travelling.’

Duterte was referring to Marcial Amaro 111 who was sacked over excessive travel.

Addressing to Guerrero, Duterte quipped ” Jag, baka magbinanggaay nang barko diha ha? Dagko ra ba na. (Jag, careful,  ships might collide, they’re too big).

Appointing retired military officials, according to Duterte is an advantage,  they follow instructions and they find ways to execute a legal order.

He added in vernacular “If plan pushes through, this year, he will head MARINA.”

Guerrero, who replaced former AFP chief of staff Eduardo Año just last October, was supposed to retire on December 17, 2017, when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56.
