Alimango festival kicks off in Lanao del Norte

LALA, LANAO DEL NORTE— After missing the festival for two years due to the pandemic, the municipal government has finally opened the celebration on Sunday, March 20, 2022 the 21st Alimango (crab) festival in time for the 73rd town anniversary.

 The celebrations were shelved during the last two years but due to the relaxed health restrictions, the event resumed on Sunday, the “mass wedding” (Kasalan ng Bayan) marked the kick off activity with 1,61 couples tied knots officiated by town Mayor Angel Yap.

The much-awaited Alimango (crab) mountain was not realized because the local government did not expect that the health restriction will be lowered to Level 2 this early “We shelved because we did not anticipate that this will happen this year, in 2019, we prepared thousands of crabs but it did not happen due to the pandemic, our preparation for the year is too close a so we decided to forego with the Alimango Mountain, yap explained.

Instead of the Alimango Mountain, the local government decided to hold a crab cooking contest which was participated in by the 23 barangays of the town.

The contest showcased the different menu and stylish crab recipe and the cooking with be participated by the residents to showcase unity among townfolks.

For Eden Obando of Barangay Tenanzaz, she prepared hot crabs with coco milk and chili.

Obando said “I am happy that finally we are celebrating our founding aniversay and I hope this will continue.”

While the residents of Barangay Raw-an was led by Meregin Secuya, the group prepared crab saute’.
