Alvarez ousted, former President Arroyo installed as new House Speaker

DAVAO CITY (July 23)  — House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez was ousted ,  Members of Congress voted Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as the new Speaker.

The change of leadership at the House took place an hour before President Rodrigo Duterte’s 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Alvarez was ousted when the Congress reconvened.

Majority of lawmakers signed a manifesto supporting Arroyo as the new House Speaker.

Arroyo, who led the country from 2001 until 2010, is the first former president to become House Speaker.

Alvarez is the Secretary-General of the ruling party, PDP-Laban.

Earlier on,  Lawmakers allied withArroyo have been circulating a manifesto of support to endorse her as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

It was reported that there are efforts to oust Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and replace him with Arroyo, it turned out to be real.-Editha Z. Caduaya/NewsLine.ph
