DAVAO CITY —- The crack among the ranks of the Philippine National Police has prompted Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to ask the members of the organization to give full support for newly-appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa.

Año on Friday welcomed the announcement of President Rodrigo Duterte on Gamboa’s appointment, saying he is very qualified and fit for the job.

In a statement, Año said “I enjoined the whole police force to rally behind P/Lt. Gen Gamboa, enforce the law without fear or favor and protect the people. I expect that he will work harder now that he is the permanent Chief PNP and lead the organization in its intensified fight against illegal drugs, criminalities, communist terrorist groups, and extremists.”

The President cut his speech during the thanksgiving gathering of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and said “We have the PNP Chief — I’m going to appoint you as the regular PNP…But you and I will have — you and Secretary Año and I will have a long, long talk first.”

Año said he expects that Gamboa will continue to cleanse the PNP ranks of scalawags.

Gamboa was designated officer-in-charge of the PNP in October 2019 after then PNP chief Oscar Albayalde resigned from his post amid graft allegations.-Editha Z. Caduaya
