ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two warring families have ended their two-year-old family feud or “rido” and surrendered their firearms to military authorities in Sulu, officials announced Wednesday.

The feuding families of Kagayan and Ladjahali of Barangay Pasil, Indanan, Sulu settled their disputes though the efforts of the 100th Infantry Battalion of the 1101st Infantry Brigade.

Lt. Col. Alex Gagula, 100th Infantry Brigade commander, said the feuding families between Hadji Jess Kagayan (deceased) represented by Abubazar Kagayan and Samore Ladjahali came to an end as they gathered last Saturday (January 23) and signed a peace pact in the presence of Brig. Gen. Antonio Bautista, Jr., 1101st Infantry Brigade commander.

Bautista said the two clans also decided to surrender their firearms to his command, indicating their sincerity to follow the laws and regulations to end armed confrontation.

Bautista commended efforts of Gagula and his men that resulted to the peaceful settlement of the Kagayan and Ladjahali families.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. William Gonzales, 11th Infantry Division commander, has also conveyed his gratitude to Indanan Mayor Hermot Jikiri, who in one way or the other, also help in the settlement of the dispute.

“I see as the result of the peace covenant initiated by Mayor Hermot together with our army units at Indanan. Hand in hand with our chief executives here in Sulu, we are making progress on the stability of the province’s security. We are also one in looking forward towards Sulu’s economic development,” Gonzales said.

The peace settlement was witnesses by police and other municipal government officials of Indanan as well as other members of the Kagayan and Ladjahali families. – Nikolai Gonzalo
