Authorities Seize P4.4-M Smuggled Cigarettes

DAVAO CITY — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) recent;y seized some 8,200 reams of various brands of smuggled cigarettes and one Isuzu closed van with an estimated value of Php 4.4 million.

The items were seized at a checkpoint through the joint efforts of the Bureau’s enforcement and intelligence units; the army’s 603rd Brigade and 37th Infantry Battalion; and PNP’s regional maritime unitin Sultan Kudarat.

The assigned examiners immediately conducted a full physical examination of the smuggled cigarettes.

District Collector Guillermo Pedro A. Francia IV immediately issued a Warrant of Seizure and Detention (WSD) against the seized goods for violation of Section 117, Section 1113 and Section 400 of R.A No. 10863 otherwise known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA).
