DAVAO CITY — For skipping the bad portion of the road a black pick-up bumped on a motorbike at the opposite direction killing a couple and critically wounded their one-year-old child on Maundy Thursday at around 1:30 in the afternoon along Purok 7 Barangay Southern Davao in Panabo City.

Panabo City PNP Traffic Investigator SSG. Cesar Mende identified the fatalities as Ronalyn Erazo-Casakit, teacher from Maryknoll College of Panabo City and her husband Chito Manlangit Casakit, a collector of a lending company.

The pick-up truck was driven by mark Anthony Fuerza, an employee of businessman Boy Lacno of Panabo City..

According to Mende, Fuerza the skipped the bad road “Pot holes” and met head-on the motorbike from the opposite direction .

A witness told Newline “The pick up was speeding, really fast and maybe when the driver noticed the pot holes, he suddenly swerved to the opposite direction and rammed on the motorbike with three passengers who were thrown away, there were fresh all over the bumper of the pick-up and one of the legs of the man was cut-off.’

A teacher said the couple just came from the market when the accident happened.

She revealed that concerned residents immediately brought the baby to Carmen District Hospital in the nearby town with the help of Janice Relampagos whose vehicle was used.

Two hours after the accident, a certain Michael Angelo Abellena Resueño, information office of Panabo City, posted on his Facebook wall ” I asked for updates sa DPWH Region XI last Monday about the problem sa Tadeco Road because this is a matter of public concern. Even though this is not an LGU Panabo Project, it is still our duty in the City Information Office to inform the people kung naunsa na ni (about the status)..

Resueño said in vernacular “The last time we checked there is a budget for Tadeco road for reconstruction and it’s up for bidding based based on their online document. But after our query for updates last Monday through their messenger, there was no feedback, We have also tried to reach their information officer and project personnel.”

He stressed that the city government of Panabo is not remiss and is always reminding the DPWH about the project, through messenger and even sent a formal letter, but nothing happened and no update so far.

He quipped “Today, the damaged road is one of the main causes of road accidents. My deepest sympathy to the family of the departed.”

Netizens also blamed Second District Representative Allan DUjali, whom they said announced that he was able to get fund for the project which until now remains unfinished.

Netizens also castigated the DPWH saying they never gave attention to repair or rehabilitate the project which has taken many lives.-EZC/Newsline
