Bangsamoro Chief Minister denies corruption amid Palace pressure allegations

October 9, 2024 by Editha Z. Caduaya

Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim has strongly denies allegations of corruption under his leadership.

DAVAO CITY — Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim has strongly denied allegations of corruption under his leadership, stating, “There was no money involved, and there was no pressure from the Palace; it was all negotiation until we reached an agreement.”

Ebrahim responded to claims that the Palace pressured him into forming a coalition between the United Bangsamoro Justice Party-MILF and the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP).

During a Zoom press conference on Wednesday, he emphasized, “I firmly denounce the false claims of corruption in the Bangsamoro Government that tarnish the reputation of Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo, Jr.”

The Chief Minister’s remarks come in response to accusations from Sultan Kudarat Governor Pax Ali Mangundadatu, who alleged that Lagdameo interfered in the political affairs of the Bangsamoro region, where his mother is running for governor. Governor Mangundadatu claimed that Lagdameo aimed to remove the current governor by promoting alternative candidates. His father, former TESDA Commissioner Teng Mangundadatu, also alleged that Lagdameo was coercing other mayors to join their party.

The coalition between the PFP and UBJP-MILF was formalized on Sunday night. They agreed to field Mayor Datu Tucao Mastura of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte, as the candidate for governor, while Ali Midtimbang will run for governor in Maguindanao del Sur.

Governor Mangundadatu previously called for Lagdameo to resign and cease what he described as harassment of mayors who refuse to yield to pressure.

Addressing allegations of financial misconduct, Ebrahim stated, “There is no money or pressure involved; it’s truly a negotiation. If there were pressure, it would be simple—just take this or else. We engage in discussions until we reach a consensus.”

Ebrahim further declared, “These libelous claims are entirely fabricated and maliciously intended. The Bangsamoro Government is considering legal remedies against those who continue to malign its offices without evidence.”

When asked about the alleged financial arrangements during the coalition discussions, Lagdameo responded, “No, we do not discuss money here; we focus on coalition and principles.” He urged Bangsamoro politicians to avoid personal attacks and false accusations, advising caution against malicious statements driven by self-interest.

The Bangsamoro Government expressed its full support for Lagdameo, recognizing his leadership as crucial for advancing development, peace, and stability in the region.
