DAVAO CITY — In commemoration of the 14th anniversary of the Maguindanao Massacre, a moment of silence was observed to pay tribute to the victims. Concurrently, the 2nd Marine Brigade (2MBde) celebrated its post-73rd Marine Birthday on November 17, 2023, under the leadership of BGen. Romeo T. Racadio PN(M), at the 2MBde Headquarters. Lt. Gen. William N. Gonzales PA, Commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WMC), graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor and Speaker.

In a separate event, the Third Party Monitoring Team (TPMT) presented its 8th Public Report on the Bangsamoro Peace Process at the Dusit Thani Residence in Davao City on Thursday morning. Conducting the proceedings, Heino Marius led discussions, highlighting both the achievements and challenges encountered from February 2022 to October 2023.

This year’s theme, “Philippine Marine Corps at 73: Most ready, always forward in the defense and security of our maritime nation,” echoed in BGen. Racadio’s affirmation of the 2MBde’s dedication to safeguarding the southwestern frontier.

During his address, Lt. Gen. Gonzales urged a sustained effort in the defense and security of the province, emphasizing the importance of fostering Marine values.

Karen Tañada, a TPMT member, expressed optimism about the Bangsamoro being one of the successful peace processes globally. However, she cautioned against complacency, emphasizing the need for continued progress and the fulfillment of crucial aspects, including the aspirations for Bangsamoro autonomy.

The Public Report delved into various aspects, including party responsibilities, transitional justice, amnesty, and the Indigenous Peoples Code, emphasizing inclusivity for non-Moro indigenous peoples.

The Peace Implementing Panel plays a crucial role in addressing misunderstandings and providing viable solutions to ensure the continued progress and peace in the Bangsamoro Region.
