BARMM to rehab site of 1974 gruesome massacre

DAVAO CITY — The Bangsamoro government is set to rehabilitate the Tacbil Mosque, in the town of Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat. The site of the gruesome Malisbong September 24, 1974 where 1,500 people were killed in a single day.

According to Minister Hussein Muñoz, of the Ministry of Public Order and Safety (MPOS) said the rehabilitation of Tacbil Mosque is necessary because it is among the dark days in the history of the Bangsamoro people were women, children and innocent civilians were killed in a single day massacre, 

The Malisbong Massacre is one of the darkest incidents recorded in the history of the Bangsamoro. It was during the Martial Law era of late president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. when members of the Philippine Army brutally murdered over 1,500 men, women, and children in Barangay Malisbong.

Muños said rehabilitating the mosque will keep the historical value of the mosque.

The rehabilitation will include the construction of two ablution areas with solar water pumping systems, waiting sheds with benches and mini museum. It will also set up an engraved marker with the names of the victims.

Abduladzid Tacbil was only a 4th year high school student when the tragic massacre happened but he recalled he was among those who were held captive inside the tacbil Mosque.

It was the second day of the Ramadhan, he recalled, it was around 4:00 in the morning he heard sounds of cannon bombs, by nine o’clock, the military gathered all the villagers, including women and children in one place but the soldiers separated the women and men, “It was about 3:00 in the afternoon when we paraded from the barrio hall to the Malisbog Mosque.”
