Barzaga freed on bail: Makati Court orders release over 8 cyberlibel charges

MANILA, Philippines (April 13) — The Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 147 of Makati City has granted the temporary freedom of surrendered Congressman Francisco “Kiko” Austria Barzaga late Monday night.

At around 10:00pm same day, Presiding Judge Josielyn Lara-De Luna ordered the release of Barzaga after he posted bail for eight (8) counts of cyberlibel filed against him.

The court also directed the lawmaker to appear before the court within five (5) days from his release to coordinate and confirm the schedule of his hearings.

His provisional release allows him to remain out of detention while the case proceeds, subject to the conditions set by the court.
