The Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of two Chinese fugitives wanted by authorities in their country for involvement in economic crimes.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified one of the aliens as 56-year-old Chen Yanhua, who was arrested last Sunday at a five-star hotel in ParaƱaque City by operatives from the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU).

Morente said he issued a deportation warrant for Chen’s arrest after informants tipped the bureau on her whereabouts and conduct of intensive surveillance on her activities for several days by FSU operatives.

ā€œWe will deport her immediately as her passport was already cancelled by the Chinese government, making her an undocumented alien,ā€ the BI chief said. ā€œShe is also an undesirable alien due to her record as a wanted fugitive.ā€

It was learned that Chen was one of seven Chinese fugitives whose arrest and deportation was sought by their government in September last year for alleged involvement in economic crimes.

Acting on the request, the BI board of commissioners ordered the aliens’ summary deportation and their inclusion in bureau’s blacklist.

In ordering their deportation, the board said the aliens’ presence in the Philippines poses a risk to public interest.ā€

According to the Chinese embassy, Chen and her cohorts defrauded 13 of their compatriots who were enticed to invest their money amounting to seven million yuan or roughly a million dollars on the promise that their deposits would earn profits and interest.

Meanwhile, BI FSU Chief Bobby Raquepo also reported the arrest of Xu Xiaojun, 34, who was arrested today in a restaurant in Baclaran, ParaƱaque.

Xu is wanted by authorities in China for allegedly engaging in bank card fraud in his country, making an illegal profit amounting to millions of Yuans in damages.

“We received information from Chinese authorities about his crime a few days ago, hence we immediately conducted a case buildup and requested that a mission order be issued by the Commissioner to effect the arrest,” said Raquepo.

Raquepo added that Xu’s passport was also canceled by the Chinese government, making him an undocumented alien.

The two are currently confined at the BI detention facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending the implementation of their deportation.-PR
