Businessman held for illegal drugs turns over P6.9 Million More

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — A man who was apprehended at a checkpoint for possessing illegal drugs and unregistered firearms has turned over an additional P6.9 million worth of illegal substances.

The Davao City Police Office revealed that on July 1, personnel from the Toril Police Precinct apprehended a certain “Joe” along with a 42-year-old woman at the Task Force Davao checkpoint in Barangay Sirawan.

The suspects who are residents of Baganga, Davao Oriental, were onboard an unregistered black sedan, and upon searching the vehicle, authorities found P432,000 worth of illegal drugs concealed along with an unlicensed .380 caliber pistol.

During further investigation, Joe informed the police that he had received a package from Metro Manila containing approximately P6.9 million worth of suspected illegal drugs.

At around 3:15 in the morning on July 3, Joe led the Toril police to a house in Barangay Maa, Davao City, and voluntarily surrendered the illegal drugs.

According to the report, the shabu, wrapped in packaging tape, was sent to him from Manila and was intended to be delivered to Cagayan.

The police have taken custody of the illegal drugs, which are scheduled to be turned over to the Crime Laboratory for further analysis.
