DAVAO CITY – A businesswoman was killed and her driver was hurt in a shooting incident inside the compound of the Center Point Plaza in Matina Crossing, Davao City on Monday (Dec. 21) afternoon.

National Bureau of Investigation (NBI-XI) Director Jonathan Balite identified the fatality as Susan Villaseran, 69 years old and a resident of Tagum City.

The driver who was wounded in the incident was identified as Sherwin Umacob who was rushed to the Davao Adventist Hospital and later transferred to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) here in the city.

Asked why there was an NBI badge found inside the car of the victim, Balite said, “she is one of our consultants.” According to Captain Rose Aguilar, spokesperson of the Davao City Police Office, the incident happened at 4:40 p.m. on Monday in front of a courier company inside the compound of the Center Point Plaza.

Aguilar said Villaseran and her driver came from a remittance center when two unidentified persons wearing black sweatshirts approached and shot them. After shooting the victims, the assailants immediately fled toward an unknown direction aboard a black motorbike.

Newsline Philippines learned that the family of Villaseran has a real estate business and that two of her children were also killed in recent years. The first one to be killed was her son who was then the captain of Barangay Sion in the Island Garden City of Samal while the other one was killed in Tagum City.

Balite said they have to conduct a thorough investigation of the killing of Villaseran. “We need to widen our investigation since she is already the third (victim) in their family,” Balite said. – Newsline.ph
