DAVAO CITY (October 16) —  Cabinet  Secretary Leoncio “Jun” Evasco this morning filed his Certificate of Candidacy  for Bohol Governor under the Nationalist Peoples Coalition party.

The Evasco family  accompanied him  and some supporters who are mostly members of the Alyansang Bol-anon Alang sa Kausaban (Abaka) movement in going to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Evasco said President Rodrigo Duterte smiled when he asked permission to join the gubernatorial race in Bohol.

Duterte promised to support Evasco and even said  “I will campaign for you.”

Evasco, a true blooded Bol-anon,  used to be Municipal Mayor of Maribojoc  for three consecutive terms.

In 2015,  he  led Duterte’s  presidential campaign and was appointed the Cabinet Secretary in 2016.

Evasco said he went back to politics to end “partisan politics” in Bohol.

He thanked the President for the trust and confidence   during the  past 30 years.

Duterte  appointed Evasco to   various posts in Davao City government, from being his chief of staff to City Engineer to Economic Enterprise, and in all these  Evasco delivered his expectations.

Evasco told NewsLine.ph “I finally conceded to the appeal of  the people in  my province to be the  vehicle for  change- a real change, after years of reflection and consultation with my family,  we finally bowed to the voice of the people.”

Evasco said, there are so many aspects of governance in Bohol  that needed to be changed  “And If I will succeed, those who appealed to me to seek this post, will be there to help me realize our unified and collective dreams to make Bohol a competitive province, away from corruption, as we aspire for a vibrant economy.”

Evasco is running against  outgoing Bohol  third district  Congressman Arthur Yap .

Yap has been facing numerous corruption charges before the Office of the Ombudsman and the Sandiganbayan, though some of which were dismissed recently.-Editha Z. Caduaya/NewsLine.ph
