Cayetano elected as House Speaker

DAVAO CITY (July 23) — As expected, 266 members of the House of Representatives voted for Taguig-Pateros Representative Alan Peter Cayetano as House Speaker.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier endorsed Cayetano for the post under term-sharing condition with Representatives Martin Romualdez and Lord Allan Velasco.

Romualdez and Velasco who earlier eyed for the post, were among those who nominated Cayetano,

With 297 lawmakers present, 266 members of the House voted in favor of Cayetano, 28 voted for Rep. Bienvenido Abante (Manila), two abstentions and one negative vote,

House Speakership for Cayetato was tough, until Duterte intervened.

Davao City First District Congressman and Presidential son Paolo Duterte, said the House is expected to election new Speaker in 15 months.

It was the younger Duterte who first nominated Cayetano.-NewsLine.ph
