DAVAO CITY — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) has launched a comprehensive internal cleansing initiative under the leadership of Acting Director BGen. Nicolas Torre III.

This move follows directives from Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief General Rommel Francisco Marbil to purify the organization and uphold high standards of integrity.

General Marbil appointed BGen. Torre to lead this internal overhaul, aiming to restore the CIDG’s credibility and regain public trust. He emphasized the importance of professionalism and ethical conduct, expressing confidence in Torre’s ability to address the challenges facing the CIDG.

The PNP Chief highlighted the CIDG’s critical role in maintaining the integrity of police investigations and ensuring justice. He entrusted Torre with the responsibility of identifying and addressing any internal issues that may compromise the organization’s integrity.

Known for his successful law enforcement initiatives, including the arrest of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and the reorganization of the Davao City Police Station, Torre is expected to implement significant reforms within the CIDG. This directive aligns with General Marbil’s broader strategy for institutional reform within the PNP, which aims to strengthen investigative operations, expedite case resolutions, and enhance accountability and transparency.

In response to this initiative, Torre underscored the need for swift and decisive action, holding every CIDG member accountable for their conduct. The focus will be on ensuring transparency and upholding the rule of law in all operations.

Under Torre’s guidance, the CIDG plans to introduce extensive reforms, including more rigorous personnel vetting, enhanced training programs, and stricter operational oversight to maintain the highest ethical standards. These efforts are aimed at transforming the CIDG into a more efficient and honorable unit dedicated to serving the public.

When questioned about potential consequences for individuals involved in misconduct, Torre stated that a thorough assessment would precede any decisions. He acknowledged the challenges ahead but reaffirmed his commitment to executing the necessary changes in the best interest of the organization.
