CMU inks agreement with LGU Kibawe for its first extension class

October 31, 2020 by NewsLine Philippines

Kibawe, Bukidnon — Central Mindanao University, through the College of Business and Management (CMU-CBM), signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kibawe on September 29 to launch the college’s first extension class in Kibawe, Bukidnon.

Present in the MOA signing were Dr. Jesus Antonio G. Derije, CMU President, who represented the university and Hon. Reynaldo Ang Rabanes, Municipality Mayor, representing the LGU-Kibawe in the presence of Dr. Jose Alexander C. Abella, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Daryl Jane A. Caballero, Dean of CBM; Dr. Teresita H. Borres, Director of Instruction; Engr. Roy Agbayani, Director of  the University Planning and Development Office; Dr. Agnes S. Riñon, Director of the Human Resource and Management Office; Dr. Jane O. Magdadaro, Chair of the Department of Business Administration, and Hon. Raymundo A. Batao, Jr., Vice Mayor and Team Leader of the Committee on Education, Municipality of Kibawe.

Hon. Ang Rabanes further expressed his gratitude to the university for helping them implement one of their priority programs that aims to provide the youth with access to quality education and to reduce the number of out-of-school youth in Kibawe. “I believe that education is one of the keys to attain success,” the mayor affirmed during the MOA signing.

This initiative is also a part of the university’s engagement with the LGU-Kibawe to implement projects pursuant to the Executive Order No. 70, s. 2018 that institutionalizes the Whole-of-Nation approach program designed towards attaining the so-called ‘inclusive and sustainable peace, ending local communist armed conflict, through education’.

As stipulated in the MOA, the university shall provide one section with a maximum class size of 40, assign a faculty to manage the learning of students in each subject using any effective, flexible learning platforms, among other functions. While the LGU-Kibawe shall provide a safe and conducive learning environment, ensure implementation of minimum health standards as prescribed by DOH, offer transportation services for the faculty assigned in the area, and provide a space to accommodate the faculty along with their academic-related preparations prior to the conduct of face to face classes.

“According to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), the extension class is temporary in nature, is not open to the public but to a specified group of people only, and there should be no available administrative and support facilities on the site but mere classrooms,” Dr. Caballero said in an interview via phone call.

Based on the survey facilitated by the LGU-Kibawe among the senior high school students, it appeared that students preferred to take Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in the university.

“So, the college offered one section under the BSBA program for SY 2020-2021,” Dr. Caballero added.

She further explained that these students would take the first two years of classes in their locality while the remaining two years will be taken in the university already. As of now, there are a total of 22 BSBA students enrolled in the program who recently received the learning guides distributed by the dean, together with the CBM faculty, during orientation and MOA signing.
