BUTUAN CITY (July 9) — The Philippine Coast Guard in Surigao del Norte has raised its alert level and mobilized response teams as Super Typhoon Inday threatens northern Mindanao and nearby coastal communities.

The Coast Guard Station Surigao del Norte (CGSSDN) placed all its units on heightened alert Wednesday, activating its Deployable Response Groups (DRGs) to ensure personnel are ready for possible rescue and emergency operations.

The station also directed all sub-units to coordinate closely with local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices for possible augmentation and rapid deployment should the storm’s impact worsen.

CGSSDN oversees Surigao City, the province of Surigao del Norte, and the island communities of Siargao and Bucas Grande—areas that are particularly vulnerable to rough seas and strong winds during severe weather.

To keep residents informed, Coast Guard personnel simultaneously conducted shoreline patrols across their areas of responsibility, advising coastal communities and fisherfolk of the approaching typhoon.

Teams also distributed information leaflets titled “Mga Paalala sa mga Mangingisda sa Panahon ng Bagyo,” reminding fishermen to prioritize safety and stay updated on official weather advisories.

As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, Super Typhoon Inday, internationally named Bavi, had entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility, prompting authorities to intensify preparedness measures as communities brace for possible heavy rains, strong winds, and dangerous sea conditions.
