DAVAO CITY —- Davao del Norte First District Representative Pantaleon Alvarez is set to challenge Clarice Jubahib, daughter of Governor Edwin Jubahib, for the position of Vice Governor in the upcoming May 2025 midterm elections.

Alvarez, who is currently serving his final term as Representative until June 2025, filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) through his trusted aide, Audie Perez, on October 5.

The contest is particularly intriguing given the history between the candidates. Governor Jubahib previously served as Alvarez’s Chief of Staff before being elected as Governor in 2019.

This background adds a layer of complexity to the race, with many supporters expressing confusion over the shifting political alliances.

As Alvarez runs against Jubahib, speculation arises regarding the motivations behind the contest. Some believe it may reflect underlying tensions within the local political landscape, particularly since Alvarez and the Jubahib family were once political allies.

With the election approaching, the rivalry between Alvarez and Jubahib is expected to intensify, significantly shaping the political narrative in Davao del Norte.

Alvarez is running under Partido Rporma while Jubahib is running under Partido Federal ng Pilipinas,
