ILIGAN CITY —– The Highway Patrol Group in Cotabato City is now preparing charges against an active police officer who was arrested on Tuesday morning, September 24, for keeping a vehicle believed to be stolen.

Police Captain Santos Libres Monares, who was assigned at Marawi City Police Station as deputy station commander, was arrested in Marawi City after failing to present pertinent documents such as certificate of registration (CR) and official receipt (OR) at the time of apprehension.

According to Major Jemar Delos Santos, information officer of Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO BARMM) claimed Monares also failed to present his driver’s license when he was flagged down.

Delos Santos said, the vehicle seized from the possession of Monares is considered a “hot car”.

Hot car is used by police which refers to missing and stolen vehicles.

But Monares reasoned out, he allegedly bought his car , a white Ford Everest with temporary plate number IK 3400, from a fellow police officer assigned at PRO 10, which he identified Captain Ramces Cartagena.

Upon verification with the Land Transportation Office, the vehicle’s registered owner is from Sta. Ana, Manila.

Monares is facing charges in violation of anti-carnapping and anti-fencing laws while Cartajena is being investigated.-Divina M. Suson
