Cop killed in car mishap

DAVAO CITY —– A police corporal died instantly after his car collided with a pick-up vehicle along the national highway of Barangay Osias in Kabacan, North Cotabato at around 8:40 in the evening on Wednesday.

Capt. Razul Pandulo, Kabacan municipal police station deputy chief, identified their colleague as Corporal Teodolfo Tugade Garavilles, 34, married and a resident of Quirino town in Sulan Kudarat but assigned at Kabacan municipal police station.

Garavilles was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital

Initial police investigation by Kabacan police showed that the victim was driving his Toyota Vios sedan going towards the nearby Matalam town when it collided with a Hilux pick up driven by Alfar Malazarte, 33, a resident of Carmen town in Cotabato province.

The two vehicle were running from opposite direction

Witnesses claimed both vehicles were speeding on opposite lanes before the collision.

Police have yet to determine who was at fault, but the driver of the pick up, the police report stated was under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident.

Pandulo said the family and relatives of garavilles are determined to press charges against Malazarte, who is now detained at the Kabacan municipal police station.-Paul T. Palacio
