COTABATO CITY – The police and the city leadership here are facing blank wall over the death of Aniceto Rasalan, the secretary and the spokesperson of Cotabato City Mayor Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi, who was shot dead Monday morning.

Rolen Balquin, chief of the Cotabato City Public Safety Office, said Rasalan, 58, secretary of the Mayor, was shot while taking his breakfast at the Se Hua Carinderia along Notre Dame Avenue, Cotabato City at past 7 a.m.

“Rasalan was alone when shot dead,” Balquin said.

Police investigation showed, two motorcycle-riding gunmen approached and shot Rasalan in the head. He was immediately brought to Cotabato Regional and Medical Center but declared dead upon arrival.

Rasalan, a former journalist, survived an attempt against his life in 2015. He was driving a van heading for work when two men onboard a motorbike came close to the driver’s side and shot him. He was hit in the face in the July 2015 shooting.

He was offered security escort but he refused.
