Couple buying “Balut” srtuck, husband killed

DAVAO CITY – A couple just wanted to eat “balut” or chicken embryo but after buying the favorite night food, a rushing pick up truck hit the husband struck thehusband while crossing the national highway around 6:00 p.m. on November 10, 2024, in Purok Mangahan, Barangay Sinawilan, Matanao, Davao Del Sur, leading to the husband’s death.

According to PSSG Alfie Asan, the traffic investigator from the Matanao Municipal Police Station, the couple was crossing back after buying balut when a pick-up truck, traveling from Digos City towards Bansalan, suddenly hit the husband, Felix Otida Culango Jr., a 39-year-old construction worker and resident of Purok 5A, Barangay Mabuhay, Bansalan.

The impact of the collision threw Culango into the opposite lane, where he was struck again by another pick-up truck. Responding rescuers rushed him to Viacruses Hospital in Bansalan, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The police confirmed that Culango’s wife was unharmed. Authorities are still searching for the driver of the first pick-up truck involved in the incident, while the second pick-up truck was found abandoned at the scene, and its driver is also being sought.

Authorities are urging the responsible drivers of both vehicles to surrender and face the consequences of their actions.
