DAVAO CITY — Bureau of Customs personnel at Ninoy Aquino International Airport intercepted on July 10, a parcel that contained $15,700 US dollars (PHP 776,826) mis-declared as “personal documents” from Durham, USA, in FedEx Warehouse, Pasay City.

In a statement, the BOC said the foreign currency was discovered through a comprehensive x-ray scan and 100% physical examination of the parcel.

The seized foreign currency shall be subjected to seizure and forfeiture proceedings for violation of Sections 1400 and 1113 of R.A. No. 10863 (CMTA) in relation to the New Central Bank Act and BSP Foreign Exchange Transaction Manual.

Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero again warned unscrupulous individuals attempting to smuggle money into the country.

Money entering the country illegally and without proper declaration are often used as resources to finance illegal and unlawful activities. The BOC is steadfast in its commitment to protecting the nation’s borders from prohibited goods and resources, the statement added.-Newsline
