Customs interceptsP144M worth of Shabu, courier arrested

DAVAO CITY — Joint government operatives led by the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) intercepted a shipment of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as Shabu, and arrest the passenger carrying the illegal drugs on August 19, 2022, at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Pasay City.

The authorities who have been tipped off of the contraband jointly monitored the arrival of the identified traveler at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). 

The carrier whose identity was not revealed by the Customs police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrived from Doha, Qatar and South Africa as port of origin.

Upon arrival, the traveler’s luggage was subjected to K9 and X-ray scanning, and 100% physical examination which yielded 21.215 Kilos of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride with estimated street value of Php 144.262 million.

The suspect   is a South African, and placed under custodial investigation by PDEA and eventual inquest for violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act and RA 10863 also known as the Customs Modernization And Tariff Act (CMTA).-Newsline
