What is personal and what is smuggled?
To avoid complications in the declaration of items contained in a balikabyan box, the Bureau of Customs draw the line.
In the twitter account of the agency, it listed the following items as nontaxable and its quantities.
Among the tax-free items but of limited quantities include perfumes, lipsticks, shampoo, lotion, bar soaps, cosmetics, toys, child-care items and household cleaning items.
Said items are nontaxable if it will not exceedeed five pieces for perfumes, 10 pieces for lipstick, 2 kilograms for shampoo, 2 kg for lotion, 2 kg for soaps, 1 kg for assorted cosmetics, 10 pieces for toys, 5 kg for child-care items and 5 kg for household cleaning items.
The items can either be sent through a passenger baggage, Balikbayan boxes, parcels or door to door service delivery.
“Items with quantity beyond the specified limits will be seized and forfeited in favor of the government,” the BOC said in its Twitter message.
Items whose importation need permits from the Department of Health or Food and Drug Administration would be subjected to duties when necessary.
Aside from the identified items and specified volumes, items sent are consider of commercial value.
