DAVAO CITY (October 16) — The Dapat Isa Lang Movement (D1LM) is asking 110,000 Dabawenyos to put their names behind a campaign to curb political dynasties, relaunching its digital signature drive in the city on Wednesday, October 14.

The movement said the Davao target would contribute to its nationwide goal of approximately 7.5 million signatures through a People’s Initiative seeking an anti-political dynasty law.

Members of the Ateneo de Davao University community are among those participating in and supporting the campaign, particularly efforts to encourage youth involvement and wider public engagement, according to the campaign announcement.

The relaunch comes amid renewed attention to the constitutional prohibition against political dynasties following a Supreme Court ruling directing Congress to enact an implementing law.

The Constitution prohibits political dynasties “as may be defined by law,” leaving lawmakers to determine the scope of the ban. The eventual law’s provisions will be crucial in establishing which family relationships and political positions would be covered.

D1LM is pushing for legislation that would address the concentration of political power within families and broaden opportunities for people outside established political clans to enter public service.

The movement’s 110,000-signature target gives its Davao campaign a concrete goal, but collecting signatures is only one step toward legislative change. Organizers will need to sustain public participation, while Congress faces pressure to turn the constitutional prohibition into an enforceable law.
