DA distributes cash and food subsidy to Farmers and Fisher folks in Samal Island

IGACOS — A total of 439 eligible beneficiaries received a total of Php 5,000 worth of cash and food subsidy on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at  Island Garden City of Samal Multi-Purpose Gymnasium, Barangay Peñaplata, Davao del Norte

As per breakdown, food subsidy such as rice and chicken worth of Php 2,000 were distributed in the morning, whilst the Php 3,000 worth of cash will be claimed and released through a money courier firm in the Island.

The aid subsidy is under the Cash and Food Subsidy for Marginal Farmers and Fisher folks of Department of Agriculture’s (DA) program, a collaboration effort from national and local government to support the local farmers and fisher folks in recovering from the adverse effects brought by the pandemic.

One of the qualifications of the beneficiaries is that they must not be covered by any social amelioration programs of the Department of Social Welfare and Development or any other government agencies.

Beneficiaries of this program include members of the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), fisher folks identified by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and Indigenous People (IPs).

“Daku gyud akong pasalamat kay gihatagan gyud mi nila og pagtagad isip usa ka mag-uuma,” Jessie Libradilla, a member of the PCA said.

The distribution was assisted by the City Agriculture Office (CAGRO) headed by Ana Lea A. Zapanta,  which was conducted with compliance to the health and safety protocols of COVID-19.
