MANILA (October 19)– “Misyon ng gobyerno na pakainin ang tao,” Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol yesterday said, as the country recently celebrated the World Food Day celebration.

Piñol said that the DA is continuously working to “deliver available and affordable food” to the public while ensuring the profitability of agriculture for its farmers and fisherfolk.  “More than anything else, it is the ultimate goal of the government to feed its people,” he emphasized.

Piñol announced that the recent TienDA Malasakit Store which opened in Taguig City gathered a total of P3.1 million in sales in just one day. “This is a proof that if we can directly link our farmers and fisherfolk to consumers, they can earn a lot while providing affordable, safe, and fresh food,” he said.

The TienDA Malasakit stores are strategically located in highly populated areas, offering lower-priced and locally-grown agricultural produce to the Metro Manila market. -Jiann Padillo/ NewsLine
