DAVAO CITY — The City Government of Davao, through the City Cooperative Development Office (CCDO), on Wednesday broke the ground for its new ‘Magnegosyo Ta Day’ livelihood training center to be located in Barangay 7-A Bucana, Talomo.

The ceremony was attended by CCDO head Luzminda Eblamo, Agripino Torres, Assistant Administrator for Operations Janis Luis Esparcia, Councilor Jessica Bonguyan, Davao City Cooperative Development Council Chairperson Agripino L. Torres, representatives from the Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD), Mindanao Development Authority affiliates, department heads and other public officials.

Wednesday’s groundbreaking signalled the start of the construction of the P11.4-Million three-story training center, which is targeted to open on January 2024.

Eblamo, in her speech, said the training center will not be limited to catering to women entrepreneurs or to cooperative enterprises but will also be open to all aspiring entrepreneurs hoping to establish small, micro and medium enterprises (SMEs).

“This Magnegosyo Ta Day training center is not exclusive to the cooperative sector. It will be a common service facility,” Eblamo said.

“All SMEs and all marginalized sectors, which our beloved mayor has focused on like the IPs, solo parents, senior citizens, farmers, fisherfolks— all the marginalized sector in Davao City will be able to avail of the services of this training center,” Eblamo added.

Esparcia said empowering the people by educating them how to create their own livelihood will bring about a higher degree of freedom and stability at the grassroots-level of the community.

Bonguyan, reading a message from Mayor Sebastian Duterte, said that making entrepreneurial and skills training more accessible to the community will promote inclusive economic development in the city.

Livelihood trainings in the center will be provided in partnership with the Cooperative Development Authority, Technical Division and Skills Development Authority, Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture and other national agencies and non-government organizations. CIO
