November 19, 2017 by Armando B. Fenequito Jr. Leave a Comment

DAVAO CITY, Philippines —The Pasko Fiesta sa Davao this year, will feature three new things—a 40 feet Christmas tree, street food fiesta and the Kan-anan sa Tribo which aims to promote indigenous foods and add color to the celebration.

Pasko Fiesta spokesperson Orly Escarilla bared that the innovation will make the Dabawenyos enjoy the celebration of the holiday season in the city. The 40-foot Christmas tree at Rizal Park will be lighted on the opening day of the month-long celebration on December 1.

Eascarilla said Christmas ball will adorn the ethnic designed fabric which will somehow represent the city’s culture. The new Christmas tree is sponsored by Omni Philippines which provided the materials and the manpower to build it.

The Kaan Davao, on the other hand is a street food fiesta that will be installed at Palma Gil Street. Food stalls will be available for the public who can buy different food and delicacies of their choice from participating tenants.

Escarilla said the original schedule of its opening will be on December 15-16 but there might be some revisions. “It might even start earlier,” he added.

The Kan-anan sa Tribo features the authentic dishes of the 11 tribes in the city. The event will be at the Tribal Village inside Magsaysay Park.

Escarilla disclosed that the committee already submitted the proposed P13 million budget for the event. Bulk of the expenses will go to the prizes on the 22 approved events and competitions. “This budget is still subject for the Mayor’s approval,” he said.

The Pasko Fiesta Executive Committee is now finalizing the details and guidelines of the competitions.-Armando B. Fenequito
