Davao City opens care home for mentally challenged kids

DAVAO CITY — The City government has reopened its care home for the neglected mentally challenged children with new features conducive for social learning activities.

Called the Lingap Center for Mentally Challenged Children, one of the city government facilities under the City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO), opened in time for its 21st founding anniversary on Friday, September 6,

Amelee Buot, Lingap’s center manager, said their new building is more conducive for children. It has new activity rooms for the children to enhance their social abilities and skills such as performing light chores.

“The children now have a conducive environment that they need because of their disability,” she said.

Buot said that the abandoned mentally challenged children need more care.

“This is a tough job because if you work here without love for them, you will not last long. We need love, passion, and perseverance to take care of them,” Buot said.

The facility is one of the seven residential facilities operated by the city government. The others that were also renovated are the Balay Dangupan, Co-Su-Gian Home for the Elderly, Bahay Pag-Asa, Paginhawaan Drop-in Center for Children, Quick Response Team for Child Center, and Sidlakan Center. –DC/CIO
