Davao City targets 186k kids in anti-polio drive

DAVAO CITY— The city government of Davao targets over 186, 864 kids in the completion of the fifth round of the “Sabayang Patak Kontra Polio” on August 2, 2020. 

Since the start of the final round on July 20,  the City Health Office (CHO) already given 174,082 children with Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) or 93.16 percent of the city’s target.

In a press statement of the city government, it quoted Dr. Julinda Acosta, head of the Technical Division of the health office saying they thought that not many will avail the vaccine as the country is faced with coronavirus-19 pandemic but the community response is still high.

Since July 20, the CHO recorded 60,555 children from District 1 who were immunized; 60,591 from District 2; and 52, 936 from District 3.

The health personnel has been conducting house to house immunization, this time strictly observing the health protocol.

“We conducted a re-orientation with our staff and barangay captains to ensure that the vaccination will be implemented safely between the parents and the child and the health workers,” Acosta said.

In going to the community, the health workers are equipped with PPEs. face shields, face mask, and sanitizing hand rubs. 

The health office is aiming to reach its target of 186,864 children before August 2.

The city health office is calling all parents who have children ages 5 years and below to avail of the Oral Polio Vaccine (OVP) since this is the final round of vaccination.-Newsline.ph with CIO
