DAVAO CITY —- Various high-impact infrastructure projects are set to start in six (6) barangays in the municipality of Banaybanay in an effort to speed barangay development and improve rural economy during the pandemic, according to the province government of Davao Oriental.

On the 12th and 13th of August, Davao Oriental Governor Nelson L. Dayanghirang led the laying of the project capsules in the six (6) barangays that will benefit from the P20 million Barangay Development project supported by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.

These projects are:

(1) Upgrading/Improvement of Barangay Road Network at Purok Centro to Purok Sta. Cruz, and construction of Potable Water System (Level III) in Barangay Paniquian;

(2) Upgrading/Improvement of Barangay Road and construction of Potable Water System (Level III) in Barangay Mahayag;

(3) Concreting of Road from Boundary Sitio Casilak and construction of Potable Water System (Level III) in Barangay Causwagan;

(4) Concreting of Road at Purok 8, Concreting of Road at Purok 3 and 7, and Construction of Potable Water System (Level III) at Barangay Maputi;

(5) Upgrading of Barangay Road and Construction of Potable Water System (Level III) in Barangay San Vicente; and

(6) Concreting of Road at Purok Payapa, El Vibo and El Centro as well as the Construction of Potable Water System (Level III) in Barangay Mogbongcogon.

These projects, according to Governor Dayanghirang, were made possible by the combined efforts of the national, provincial, and local government units, as well as people who worked tirelessly to achieve an insurgency-free community.

The Governor continued, “These initiatives are a manifestation of how development can readily happen when there is peace,” underlining that when there is peace, development follows.

From 2016 to 2019, the said barangays were among the 32 in Davao Oriental that were free of New People’s Army (NPA) insurgents. Under the BDP, each of the 32 barangays is eligible for a P20 million grant.

In addition to restoring the insurgency-cleared barangays, Governor Dayanghirang stated that basic infrastructure and social services will be established soon in order to maintain peace and order in the six villages.

“We know that poverty, starvation, a lack of access to education and economic opportunity, insufficient healthcare and infrastructure, and injustice are the core issues that attract vulnerable groups into the local communist armed war.”  Governor Dayanghirang stated, “Our purpose in the PTF-ELCAC, through the BDP, is to solve these fundamental causes.”

The BDP is a crucial program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, which aims to bring development to communities that were formerly recognized as guerilla fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing, the New People’s Army.

Meanwhile, on August 13, a separate blessing and handover ceremony for the completed Potable Water System was held in Barangay Bagumbayan, Lupon (Level II).

Among those who consistently showed support in the two-day event were District 2 Representative Cong. Joel Mayo Z. Almario; Vice-Governor Nino Sotero L. Uy; Board Members Enrico Antopuesto, Anacleto Macatabog, and Ian Larcia; 701st Kagitingan Brigade Commander Col. Oliver Maquiling; 66th Infantry Battalion Lt. Col. Julius Munar; and other local officials.-PR
