DAVAO ORIENTAL – Davao Oriental emerged as the frontrunner in the recently concluded Measles-Rubella Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity, known as the “Chikiting Ligtas” campaign, led by the Department of Health. The province achieved an impressive 98.84% accomplishment rate for Measles-Rubella (M.R) immunization and a commendable 96.26% completion rate for Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) vaccination, positioning it at the top among all provinces in the Davao Region.

The success of the campaign can be attributed to the collaboration and dedicated efforts of each local government unit (LGU) in the region. Caraga and Manay municipalities secured the first and second positions, respectively, while Banaybanay and Baganga municipalities claimed the fourth and fifth spots, further showcasing Davao Oriental’s exceptional performance.

Notably, Mati City, Lupon, and Cateel also attained a 90% mark in Measles-Rubella immunization, underscoring the effectiveness of the comprehensive strategies, meticulous planning, and seamless execution carried out by the Municipal Health Office (MHO), City Health Office (CHO), and Provincial Health Office (PHO). The contribution of barangay health workers in educating parents about the significance of vaccinating their children played a vital role in this accomplishment.

Dr. Reden Bersaldo, the Provincial Health Officer III, expressed his gratitude to the unwavering dedication of the health workers on the ground and the steadfast support from the mayors. Dr. Bersaldo emphasized that their relentless commitment and tireless efforts were the driving force behind the resounding success of the “Chikiting Ligtas” campaign in the province.

Furthermore, Dr. Bersaldo commended the Provincial Government, under the leadership of Governor Corazon Malanyaon, for their consistent support throughout the MR-OPV Supplemental Immunization Activity. The administration’s exemplary leadership, provision of essential resources, efficient implementation, and promotion of effective coordination among stakeholders played a crucial role in the triumph of the campaign.

Davao Oriental’s remarkable achievements serve as an inspiration to other provinces and regions in the Philippines, encouraging them to strengthen their immunization efforts and work towards a healthier future for the nation.

The success of the MR-OPV immunization campaign in Davao Oriental highlights the province’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding its population from vaccine-preventable diseases. It exemplifies the power of collaboration and cooperation among different sectors and stakeholders.
