DavNor introduces inland fishery to communities

DAVAO CITY — The provincial government of Davao del Norte has expanded its livelihood program through inland fishery production to various communities in the hope of empowering the residents in coping up with the crisis.

The program which is implemented under the auspices of Kawsa AgrikulturA and Livelihood of Brangay or KAAGAPAY, the pet project of Governor Edwin I. Jubahib..

To strengthen the food program of the province, Jubahib recently allocated P1,000,000 as seed money for the beneficiaries to buy Tilapia fingerlings and feeds to start their livelihood.The provincial government through the Municipal Agriculture Office has identified 380 beneficiaries of the project.

The provincial Provincial Agriculturist Office through Senior Aquaculturist Clori Silvosa expects that the fingerlings will be delivered and distribution will immediately foloow,.

Jubahib launched the KAAGAPAY in 2020 during the peak of he pandemic as the government’s way to help the people sustain the foods needed on their table.

Jubahib banked on backyard gardening as people were locked inside their houses and encouraged everyone to plant their own food while the provinvial government buys their surplus produce and bring ut to the market at a lower cost to help te people cope with the crisis.

The KAAGAPAY program, according to Jubahib, involves the planting of vegetables, rootcrops and backyard free=range chicken.

In the inland fishery, the 380 beneficiaries are coming from the citiesof Tagum, Panabo and municipalites like New Corella, San Isidro, Kapalong, Talaingod, Sto. Tomas, Braulio E. Dujali, and Carmen.-Editha Z. Caduaya
