MATI, DAVAO ORIENTAL (July 7) —The provincial government targets 50,000 housing units which will be constructed in the next three years.

This was the vow of Governor Nelson Dayanghirang as he entered his new mandate after seeking reelection during the May 13, midterm elections.

The governor’s commitment was reiterated by Flordeliza Tabanao, the chief of the Provincial task Force on Socialized Housing, during the groundbreaking ceremony of the provincial government’s housing project in Sitio Magay, City of Mati few days ago.

Tabanao disclosed that Dayanghirang is serious in his plan to establish the mass housing program of the province as he recognized his constituents need for decent and affordable housing, and in doing so, the government will be able to address the housing backlog.

The newly established housing project sits in the 15-hectare property owned by the Tolentino family.

Dayanghirang asked the assistance of the shelter agencies such as Socialized Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), the National Housing Authority (NHA), to allow the beneficiaries to pay their units in 25 years.

The housing task force organized the beneficiaries now called Mandaya Muslim Bisaya Homeowners Association, Incorporated.

The groundbreaking covers Phase 1 to Phase 3 of the project, while Phase 4 will follow.

The subdivision plan was mutually agreed by the government and the beneficiaries, it will not just be affordable but also liveable.

Dayanghirang in his message stressed “This is our way of helping our homeless populace.  Any local resident can avail of the project as long as he does not own a house and lot. We do not want to deprive them of the opportunity to own their own house and lot.”

The housing project is also intended for residents in the low-lying areas or dangered zones and those who will be affected by the government projects.

Right after the groundbreaking, the signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) followed, with Dayanghirang, Atty. Arnulfo Cabling, President of the Socialized Housing Finance Corporation (SHFC), and Ma. Perpetua Tolentino-Cabreros, who represented the heirs of Tolentino.

The SHFC will pay the landowner and the association will be an active role in the development of their communities.-PIO/DavOr
