MANILA (November 8) – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday urged all local government units (LGUs) to complete preemptive or mandatory evacuations in high-risk areas by Sunday, ahead of the possible landfall of Tropical Cyclone Fung-wong (to be named Uwan).

“Early evacuation saves lives,” the agency said, reminding local chief executives to act swiftly as the storm is expected to intensify into a super typhoon before hitting Northern or Central Luzon early next week.

Following President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive for heightened disaster preparedness, the DILG instructed LGUs to ensure that evacuation centers are well-equipped with supplies and backup power, and that evacuees are properly managed.

The agency also ordered the suspension of sea travel and tourism activities in danger zones, as well as the mobilization of equipment and personnel for road clearing and emergency response.

“We cannot be complacent. The next 48 hours are crucial,” the DILG said, urging the public to stay informed, follow advisories, and cooperate with authorities.
