DOH Secretary Herbosa visits JMCFI College of Medicine in Davao City

DAVAO CITY – The Jose Maria College of Medicine (JMCM) in Davao City welcomed the Secretary of Health, Dr. Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa, during his recent visit to the Davao Region on Friday, June 16.

The visit highlighted the government’s commitment to healthcare excellence and the significance of JMCM as a prominent medical institution within a robust universal health care system.

Secretary Herbosa’s visit aimed to familiarize himself with the institution, including a thorough inspection of the medical equipment used by students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the medical course offered at JMCM. He expressed optimism that the aspiring medical students from the Davao Region would become future physicians, contributing to the advancement of healthcare in the area.

Accompanying Herbosa were prominent figures in the healthcare sector, including DOH Undersecretary Dr. Abdullah B. Dumama, Jr., DOH Davao CHD Regional Director Dr. Annabelle P. Yumang, Assistant Regional Director Dr. Gerna M. Manatad, PhilHealth’s Vice President, Dr. Albert Domingo, Assistant City Health Officer Dr. Marjorie Culas, JMCFI’s College of Medicine Dean, Dr. Nestor Arce, Jr., and JMCFI’s College of Medicine Assistant Dean, Dr. Jed Enumerables.

Secretary Herbosa’s visit extended to the Center for Health Development at the Davao Regional Office, where he engaged with dedicated employees and delivered a speech.

Undersecretary Abdullah B. Dumama Jr. highlighted Secretary Herbosa’s contributions to the Department of Health during his previous tenure as Undersecretary, particularly in strengthening health systems.

Aligned with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directives, Secretary Herbosa emphasized the importance of fortifying programs addressing HIV and TB within the Davao CHD to reduce their prevalence. He also stressed the significance of digitalization in healthcare services, aiming to enhance accessibility and efficiency. As the newly appointed Secretary of the Department of Health, he expressed his unwavering commitment to serve the Filipino people and uplift the marginalized.

During the visit, RD Yumang, the leader of the Davao CHD, expressed strong support for Secretary Herbosa’s leadership and applauded his commitment to advancing healthcare in the region.
