DOLE reminds workers of Special Holiday Pay rules for Dec. 8

MANILA (December 7) – Private sector employees who report for work on Monday, Dec. 8, a special non-working day for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, are entitled to additional pay, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced.

Under Labor Advisory No. 17:

  • Employees who work on this special day must receive 130% of their basic wage for the first eight hours.
  • Those who do not work will observe the “no work, no pay” rule unless company policy states otherwise.
  • Overtime work requires an additional 30% of the hourly rate.
  • If the employee works on the special day that also falls on their rest day, they are entitled to 150% of their basic wage for the first eight hours.
  • Overtime on a rest day will be paid at 30% of the adjusted hourly rate.

December 8 is a nationwide special non-working holiday under Republic Act 10966, marking the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, the principal patroness of the Philippines.
