CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY (October 23)- The Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) is expected to implement next year the proposed upgrading of the drainage system in response to the perennial flooding caused by heavy rains.
City Engineering Chief, Engr. Rolando Pacuribot said that among the flood-prone areas or the low-lying areas in the city, the master plan on urban drainage upgrade is not only limited on the city proper.
The project will focus on Sapan, Carmen, and Lapasan; especially around the areas of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) and Limketkai Mall.
The project has four options before the full implementation:
Option A. The drainage will pass along the Luxe Hotel.
Option B. Drainage system will pass behind Puregold.
Option C. Drainage system will pass in front of Puregold.
Option D. The drainage system will pass along Lapasan bridge.
Pacuribot said that Option A is the best option that the implementing body can have because of it can best address the flooding in the main area. “If Limketkai will not allow the city government to use their property, there will be a possibility that a portion of the Limketkai will still suffer from flooding,” he added.
The proposed budget for the entire project implementation is PhP1.84 billion pesos, but only PhP 680 million pesos was released. – Hensell Hebaya/NewsLine
