The police identified the deceased driver as Jerson Almero Ariston, 48 years old, married, and a resident of Purok 13, Tibungco, Davao City.

Based on the initial police investigation, Ariston was driving a Prime Mover Truck with plate number AAZ 4213, registered to YM Cargo Transport Corp. According to Michael Medecelo Belotendes, the company’s security guard, the truck was traveling south on the Daang Maharlika National Highway.

Upon reaching the corner of Km 12 Road, Sasa, Davao City, the truck stopped, and Ariston got off to check the tires. However, Belotendes observed that the truck began to move slowly forward and subsequently ran over Ariston.

The responding medical team found Ariston with severe injuries, including a broken hip, and declared him dead at the scene.

Ariston’s partner, Raul Chua, arrived at the scene and discovered that the brake hose of the truck had been removed, causing the vehicle to move and run over Ariston. Ariston was alone and did not have a helper with him at the time of the accident.
