DTI leads Innovation Summit 2018 launching

DAVAO CITY (August 23) — The Department of Trade and Industry in partnership with Mindanao Development Authority, Department of Information and Communications Technology – Mindanao Cluster 3, Davao City Government and ICT Davao, Inc. launched the Innovation Summit last August 16, 2018 at Madeline Hotel and Suites, Circumferential Road, Davao City.

The event aims to promote the Innovation Summit slated on October 22, 2018 at Marco Polo Hotel, Davao City to all ICT stakeholders in Mindanao and in the BIMP-EAGA; encourage innovators to showcase their products during the event; promote business-to-business meeting with BIMP-EAGA innovators and local industry cluster players; and develop the ICT industry cluster in Davao Region vis-à-vis the Digital Economy. The theme of the summit is Davao City Life is Here and the Digital Economy.

In the Innovation Summit 2018, this will be staged in a unique un-conference style wherein participants are divided into several tracks after every plenary session.

Session I is on innovating with innovators where discussions are focused on technology-enabled social enterprises, financial technology and e-Payments, e-Health, e-Logistics, and Public Sector Digital Innovations;

Session II is on Turbocharging the Digital Highway where discussion will highlight wired and wireless innovations being implemented by telecommunications company and the third-telco project of DICT and ;

Session III is on Outsourcing services where discussions will be geared towards center-based outsourcing, home-based outsourcing, digital influencers on branding and marketing; education and talent development and IT Creatives.

In his message, Atty Samuel Matunog, President of ICT Davao Inc. revealed that there are home-grown innovators who were able to scale-up their businesses in the areas of crypto-currencies, e-logistics, mobile applications, enterprise resource planning (ERP) management information system, among others.

Matunog encouraged the stakeholders from government and private sectors to support the innovation summit as a way to transform digitally industry clusters players in identified priority sectors such as cacao, coffee, coco-coir, processed food, fruits and nuts, banana, mango, seaweeds, tourism, gifts, toys and houseware (GTH) and wearables, among others not only in the use of technology to improve products and services but also their business processes. This will be done in collaboration with innovators in the BIMP-EAGA areas.

On the other hand, DICT XI and Mindanao Cluster 3 Director Erlito Tancontian and DICT-X Director Eva May dela Rosa expressed their support to the Innovation Summit 2018 by bringing together the ICT stakeholders in the event particularly those coming from the local government units (LGUs) that use technology to improve public services.

At present, DICT is conducting various trainings to LGUs particularly on Business Permits and Licenses System (BPLS), Rural Impact Sourcing, etc.
