ZAMBOANGA CITY (August 1)– Presidential Peace Adviser Jesus G. Dureza yesterday said that the terrorist bombing in Lamitan City in the island province of Basilan on Tuesday was “a tragic incident that serves to remind that the road to lasting and sustainable peace is fraught with threats and dangers.”

The incident, perpetrated by suspected terrorists, came in the heels of the successful passage and signing of the Bangsamoro Organic Law. The BOL is a landmark piece of legislation that is intended to bring peace to Mindanao and make armed elements irrelevant in the region.

“The challenges are indeed still there, but nothing will move us from our unwavering stand to follow and complete the peace process. Let us not allow incidents like this to divide us. Instead, let us work all the harder in order to achieve the peace for which we have worked hard for so long,” Dureza, in a statement said.

Ten people were killed, Tuesday, when a car bomb exploded at a security checkpoint after soldiers and members of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (CAFGU) checked a vehicle in Lamitan City, Basilan.  Newsline.ph
