DAVAO CITY (June 21) — President Rodrigo Duterte appointed  lawyer Marlon Sabucido Casquejo, as new Commissioner in the  poll body.

Prior to his appointment, Casquejo serves as  the Assistant Regional Election Director (ARED) of Comelec Region 11.

Malacañang released Casquejo’s appointment on Monday.

Casquejo replaces Commissioner Christian Robert Lim who retired last February 2.

This developed as the Commission on Elections-Employees’ Union (Comelec-EU) supported the ad interim appointment of Casquejo.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the employees’ group said the appointment of the newest member of the Commission en banc was a good choice since he came from the ranks.

“The Comelec-EU believes Atty. Casquejo is worthy of the post considering that he is an insider and as such, he has under his belt, years of experience and expertise in election management and administration,” the group said.

“Being a ranking Comelec official in the field prior to his appointment, we also believe that he knows by heart the sentiments of the more than 5,000 Comelec rank and file employees,” the Comelec-EU added.

The employees are hoping that the new Commissioner will be supportive of the undertakings that will promote the rights and welfare of poll workers.

“In this regard, we know Commissioner Casquejo will be supportive and open to undertaking programs that aims to promote the rights and welfare of the Comelec workforce,” the workers’ group added.

Casquejo’s  term will expire on February 2, 2025. -NewsLine.ph
